About the Event

International Day of Yoga Event

A Celebration of Yoga in the Upper Clutha Community

Wanaka will celebrate the International Day of Yoga with a free event on Sunday, 21st June, preceded by free and koha classes on Thursday, 18th, Friday, 19th, and Saturday, 20th.

The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is celebrated annually on 21st of June, and promotes global health, harmony and peace. The IDY’s first edition was in 2015 and was mainly in India. Since then, it has been growing in popularity, gaining more people, cities and countries. In New Zealand, the IDY has been celebrated since 2017 and now Wanaka has an opportunity to hold this event, promoting Yoga in our community and the towns around us, integrating and connecting our yoga instructors.

On Sunday, 21st, the main event happens at Lake Wanaka Centre, from 8:30am to 1:00pm, divided into 2 sessions. We ask you to be punctual and, if possible, bring your own yoga mat, block/cushion and blanket.

It is crucial to register in advance for the event and classes due to the limited number of spaces and Koha will be donated to a local Mental Health organization. Please, contact directly the yoga studios listed bellow for booking the respective classes. To book your spot on the main closing event on Sunday, 21st, please use the link

“Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being.”

Narendra Modi, Indian Prime Minister during the UN General Assembly, 2014.
